A common problem with weight loss for many people is staying with the program. At the beginning, everything seems so easy to stick to, with both ambition and commitment running high. There are many people who lose the weight and keep the weight off. How do they manage to accomplish that?
Start you weight loss plan by deciding what your goals are. You need to make up your mind and decide if you want to lose weight or just tone your body. Is there a particular weight target you are looking to achieve? Or is increasing your energy and endurance what's important to you?
Track your progress in a journal. To keep yourself less stressed about weight loss, weigh yourself only once per week. Doing so too often will make you anxious. Use a food journal to track all of your meals, snacks, beverages and the calories they contain. Snacks and beverages should be included as well. Simply writing down what you eat and drink can prevent you from making poor choices.
When you are very hungry, you tend to make unhealthy food decisions. To avoid being faced with the dilemma of making bad food choices, make sure to pack healthy and nutritious foods when you leave the house. It is far better to bring a bagged lunch wherever you are going, than to end up in a fast food restaurant. Packing your own meal gives you more control over the calories you consume, and will help you avoid the over-indulgence that occurs when you dine out. When you pack snacks or lunch, you protect both your wallet and your waistline.
A healthy weight loss plan requires both modest exercise and a nutritional diet. For steady weight loss, try a combination of diet and exercise. You can also have fun by doing activities that involve exercise. Get a friend to exercise with you if you don't have the willpower to exercise on your own. Have your family join you for some exercise. You don't need to be at the gym to exercise. Get outside, move your body and get your blood pumping and the pounds will start shedding.
The simple fact of the matter is that you cannot eat junk food if it is not available. Unhealthy eating habits are usually due to your environment. By keeping things such as fruits, veggies and granola bars stocked in your house, you will be more likely to choose these more healthy treats. It is a good idea to not keep tempting foods within easy reach in the home.
You cannot lose weight because your doctor says you should or your husband wants you to do it. You have to decide you are going to lose weight because you want to do it for yourself. In order to not get discouraged and lonely, you need to ask your friends and family for their support. It is inevitable that you will have low points where you feel frustrated or discouraged and it is at these times that temptations can lead you astray. When temptation and frustration strike do not give up. Call on your support group to help you through it so you can stay on track.
