Losing weight definitely can feel impossible at times. You start off feeling extremely pumped about your weight loss goals, but after a few weeks, this excitement wears off. Once this happens, the tendency is to quit. Why is it that some people can actually lose the weight and keep it off? What is their secret to success?
By creating a plan and identifying specific goals prior to starting, you are more likely to succeed. Are you interested in losing a significant amount of weight, or just a few extra pounds? Do you want to shed some pounds? What are your other goals? Decide whether feeling more energized and being in shape is important to you.
Weigh yourself weekly and chart your progress. It's a good idea to keep track of this in a weekly diary so you can compare from week to week. Make sure your food journal is kept in the same book. Writing down your daily food intake helps keep you accountable for what you eat. By forcing yourself to write out your food, you will become less apt to eat junk.
If you give up on your healthy eating schedule, you are asking for disaster. If you starve yourself, you may give into temptation. Plan your meals in advance. Bring snacks with you, too. If you can bring your own lunch, do it. By packing a lunch, you are saving money and avoiding potentially bad choices while at work or school.
The two staples of any weight loss plan are diet and exercise. Find the workout that you enjoy doing the most, and do it at least 3 times a week. If exercising is getting tedious, incorporate your favorite activities into your workout routine. When getting together with your friends, you can all take a walk. Look into taking a dance class, if you like dancing. Are you a fan of the great outdoors? Step outside and go on a good, long hike.
A key step in getting yourself healthy is to throw away all the junk food and temptations in your home. Keep healthy foods around, such as fruits and vegetables, and you will be more likely to reach for them instead of the unhealthy foods. If there isn't any junk food around, you won't be tempted to eat it when hunger strikes.
Try to get your friends to encourage and work with you. Even though it is down to you to lose the weight, remember that your family and friends can offer encouragement, especially when you feel like giving up. Know who you will reach out to when you are feeling down and unmotivated. They can give you the support that you need as you go through your weight loss program.
