Losing weight and keeping it off can seem like an unattainable goal. When beginning a new exercise routine, it is easy to find determination, but as the first few workouts end, the motivation often wanes. What are the obstacles preventing you from losing weight?
The very first step is to determine what your goals are for weight loss. Do you have an upcoming social function for which you want to look your best? Are you simply overweight and need to get into better shape? Is it energy that you need, or do you have a medical condition that requires you to lose weight? You should ask yourself these types of questions.
Keep track of how much you lose weight each week. Use a diary or log to track your weight loss progress each week. Make sure your food journal is kept in the same book. Record what you eat each day, so you can stay accountable. Sometimes, just knowing you have to write it down makes it less likely that you will want to consume it.
You know what your food needs are, so it's important to plan ahead for the coming day. Do not wait until the hunger pangs start gnawing at your stomach to start thinking about what you will eat. Prepare yourself in advance! Keep some healthy snacks on-hand at all times, so that you never feel tempted to binge on something unhealthy. Always try to remember how much money you are going to save by eating at home as opposed to dining in expensive restaurants. By planning out your menus and sticking to them, you will succeed at losing weight.
Being able to balance healthy eating and exercise is the key to permanent weight loss. Exercising requires restructuring of your schedule; a couple of hours three days a week should be suitable for significant weight loss. If you think this will be difficult to stick to, then choose activities you will have fun doing. Try to get your friends involved by asking them to walk with you. Short hikes on a nature trail or even just a walk through the neighborhood park can satisfy your thirst for the great outdoors and get you some exercise! If you love to dance, why not give a dance class a whirl and practice some new steps.
If all you have in the house is junk food, it should be no surprise that you reach for it first when you are hungry. The healthier the foods you have available in your kitchen are, the more likely you are to choose them instead of sugar laden junk! Stock your pantry with lots of healthy alternatives to junk food, such as veggies, fruits, and healthy, low-fat snack foods. You must learn self control; stop buying the junk foods that you are addicted to. You may go through some junk food withdrawals but it is well worth it in the long run. If you eliminate junk food from your home and replace it with healthy food, you will cease making bad choices.
Inform the people in your life about your weight-loss goals. Your family's support can be the inspiration you need to continue working on your weight loss goal. If you feel discouraged, talk to one of your friends. A good old pat on the back is a superb motivator.
