Weight loss isn't something that happens overnight. It is easy to start off feeling all charged up, but as more time progresses, it is often difficult for us to find any motivation to continue. Why isn't that something that happens to everybody? Some people lose weight and keep it off. What is the secret to their success?
Having clear goals in mind should be a priority when starting a fitness plan. Is it your goal to primarily tighten and tone; or are you looking for a major transformation? Are you hoping that regularly workouts will give you more energy? What is your end goal?
Keep a record of your progress. Write things down, such as caloric intake, foods you ingest and beverages you choose. Keep a regular journal that has records of your weight, preferably measured by the week. Use the journal to list the foods you eat everyday in a food log. Writing down what you are eating will make you more conscious of what you eat.
When your stomach is crying out for food, it's very easy to fall into the trap of choosing the wrong thing to eat. When you are hungry, you do not think about what you are eating. Avoid this by having snacks on hand and make time for your meals. You could take a meal with you so you aren't having to get take-out to satisfy your hunger. This reduces your food costs and the food you prepare yourself will be healthier and lower in calories.
Being able to balance healthy eating and exercise is the key to permanent weight loss. It is very important to exercise at least three days out of the week. If you cannot commit to exercising, then pick an activity that you can stick with for the long term. Ask your friends to walk with you. Hiking is another great way to lose weight. If you like to dance then go out dancing, but try a new form of dance such as salsa or samba classes.
The best way to stop snacking on junk food is to banish it from your home! Keep your kitchen empty of junk food. If it is not laying around then you will not eat it. Make sure you have easy access to healthy foods instead. Green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, and granola are all healthy snacks. Stay away from fatty favorites that you know you can't resist. If it's inconvenient to get your hands on a certain kind of food, then you are more likely to eat something else that is healthier for you.
It will be up to you to lose the weight, but it will be much easier if you have a good support system or someone to go through your weight-loss journey with you. If you get to the point where you feel like stopping, then this support you get from other people will pump you up and give you the motivation to keep going. The ones around you can help you stay on track.
