Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. In the beginning, it is easy to stick to your goals. After some time, even if you have been successful, it can be more and more difficult to stay motivated. This drop-off is not a sure thing for everyone, though. Achieving weight loss goals and keeping their goal weight is something some people do. How do they manage to accomplish that?
Do a bit of thinking about your goals first. Keeping a realistic mindset when thinking about how you are going to lose weight is key to being successful. Is there a certain number of pounds that you want to get rid of? Do you want to lose weight to feel more energetic? Do you need to lose excess pounds for medical reasons? These inquiries are the ones you must answer to find out your goals.
It is important to keep track of your progress every week as you move forward. Write things down in a journal and make sure you weigh in at least once a week. Your journal should include a food diary so that you can keep track of your daily eating habits. By physically recording what you eat, you will be more self aware and perhaps more discerning in your dietary choices.
Being extremely hungry can throw your self control out the window. Keep healthy snacks with you at all times. If you haven't eaten all day, you can easily find yourself wandering into a fast food restaurant. Plan your meals a week in advance, and always bring a bag lunch to work. This will also save you money.
The secret to successful, lasting weight loss is a combination of nutritious eating habits coupled with a good exercise program. Exercising requires restructuring of your schedule; a couple of hours three days a week should be suitable for significant weight loss. If you cannot commit to exercising, then pick an activity that you can stick with for the long term. Ask your friends to schedule a weekly walk or two with you. Short hikes on a nature trail or even just a walk through the neighborhood park can satisfy your thirst for the great outdoors and get you some exercise! Sign up for a class and learn a new high-energy style if you enjoy dancing.
Everyone knows that it's good for them, but not many actually go through with it. Remove any trace of fatty foods, sugary treats and high calorie snacks from your cupboards and fridge. When these snacks are not in your pantry, you cannot just automatically and mindlessly reach for them when you are hungry. Always keep healthy snacks, such as fruits and veggies, available. Remember, if you do not have the choice to eat unhealthy foods then you cannot eat them.
Have your friends support you in whatever way they are able. Even though it is still ultimately up to you to lose weight, their support can be a great source of motivation. Accountability is important in any long-term weight loss plan, and when you involve a friend or family member, you are more likely to succeed. When you feel like you are not motivated, call a buddy for support. Your friends can give you the added morale boost you need to continue your efforts.
