You can become discouraged and give up when trying to lose weight. You may lose weight rapidly at first, and then stagnate for a time. When you see people have success, you start to wonder what they did to reach their goals, and what it took to get there. How on earth do they manage it?
Start by setting your goals. Is there a special event coming up that you want to look nice for? Are you simply overweight and need to get into better shape? Is more energy important to you, or do you need to lose weight for medical reasons? These are the types of things you need to ask yourself.
Having to stare your progress (or lack thereof) in the face is one way to keep yourself on track. You should keep a journal of all the food you eat. Keep a running tally on your daily food intake to maintain success in your caloric allotment. Use that same journal to keep track of your weight from week to week. Graphs help motivate because they give you a visual of what is happening to your body.
Never allow yourself to get too hungry! If you allow yourself to get too hungry, it is hard to keep self-control. Select items for your menus beforehand, and keep snack foods on hand for whenever the need may arise. If it is possible, pack your lunch for each day. It only takes five minutes to get a healthy midday meal together and it can even be done the night before. By packing a lunch, you are saving money and avoiding potentially bad choices while at work or school.
In order to lose weight you should follow a healthy diet along with exercise. Try to find an exercise routine you find appealing, and make sure you complete it at least three times weekly. If you are having difficulty exercising consistently, consider what it is that you like to do, and turn that into a workout. Use any opportunity to go on a walk. Sign up for a formal dance class if you already enjoy dancing. If you like to hike, look for trails you do not know about!
The less junk food you have laying around, the less likely you will be to eat it. Unhealthy eating habits are usually due to your environment. By keeping things such as fruits, veggies and granola bars stocked in your house, you will be more likely to choose these more healthy treats. It is a good idea to not keep tempting foods within easy reach in the home.
Ask your friends to give you support. You have to do the heavy lifting yourself, but there's nothing like a support network to keep you motivated to lose weight. When your body is tired and you are feeling frustrated you should call someone to give you motivation. Your support system can be a huge help all the way through your weight loss journey.
