Weight loss isn't something that happens overnight. While many diets begin with the best of intentions, bad habits have a way of taking over as time goes by. Why doesn't everyone have the same problem? There are people who have been successful in losing weight and have kept it off. What is the secret to their success?
Before you do anything else, decide on some realistic weight loss goals. Are you trying to loose weight to fit into some old clothes that you used to wear, or are your goals more ambitious? Is it that you want to be healthier and feel fitter? Setting goals gives you a solid point in the future to look forward to. Without set goals, you will be less likely to stay with your weight loss program.
Record your progress at least once a week. Start a weight loss diary, making note of your weight on a weekly basis. Within the journal, create a food log to keep track of all the food you eat each day. By physically recording what you eat, you will be more self aware and perhaps more discerning in your dietary choices.
You are more likely to make bad choices when you are already hungry. You are not thinking about what is good for you and your diet. Schedule the times you eat and carry healthy snacks with you in case you get hungry. When you pack your lunch, you do not have the temptation to eat take-out. You'll spend less on food, and probably eat fewer calories as well.
The best way to lose weight is to eat healthy and work out. Scheduling a certain amount of time weekly for exercise will provide you with more energy If it is difficult for you to schedule formal exercise routines into your daily life, try adding fun physical activities instead. If you like going for walks or hikes, then take a friend along with you for companionship. If you like to dance, get your moves on with salsa dancing.
Make junk food hard to get your hands on. Try to not buy junk food at all. If you are surrounded by healthy food, you will most likely eat more healthily.
Friends can support you in a variety of ways. Although they can't lose the weight for you, they can be invaluable in providing much-needed motivation to keep you going forward. If you have a coach or a mentor, it makes it easier to avoid quitting when you are tired or feeling down. Try calling a friend if you are in need of some additional encouragement. A good friend will be able to give you the psychological support you need to stick to your weight loss plan.
