It can seem like losing weight takes forever. It's easy to start out with lots of energy and lofty ambition, but the day-to-day challenges of reaching a distant goal may wear down that energy. How is it that some people don't have this problem? Some people can lose weight and stay light for an extended period of time. What do they do to achieve this amazing feat?
What you want to do in the beginning is decide your specific weight loss target. Is one of your goals to fit into a specific size of attire? Do you want to reach a certain goal weight? Is your goal to simply get in shape and live a healthier life?
Chart your weight loss. You should only weigh yourself once a week. If you do it more often, you may find yourself becoming anxious when you think you aren't reaching your goals. Always try to write down everything that you consume in a food journal Remember to keep a note of any drinks and snacks that you consume. This can sometimes keep you from making bad decisions when choosing what you are going to eat and drink.
Hunger usually results in unhealthy food decisions. Never wait until you are famished before finding something to have as a snack. Schedule your meals in advance and have snacks on hand. Bring your own lunch instead of going to a restaurant. Planning ahead protects both your waistline and your wallet! When you are very hungry, you tend to make poor, unhealthy choices about the food you eat. Avoid allowing yourself to become too hungry before you eat. Plan your meals ahead of time and have healthy snacks available at all times. Instead of eating at a restaurant, bring your lunch from home. This will be easy both on your wallet and on your calorie count.
In order to lose weight you need to pay attention to not only your diet but also the amount of exercise you get. Create an exercise plan that incorporates different activities that you enjoy so that it is easier for you to maintain your work ethic. Some activities that you may want to try include joining a dance class or sports team, or going for a walk, run or swim with a friend. Make sure you are creative with your exercise endeavors.
Take all junk food out of your house. Eliminate the sources of your bad eating habits and increase the availability of fruits and veggies. Once you have gotten rid of all the unhealthy foods from your home, then they aren't readily available as a temptation for you to snack on.
Workout with someone you know. We can often make excuses if we only answer to ourselves and ignore our responsibility to stay healthy. Having a friend working out with you provides an incentive for you to persevere when you begin to tire or become frustrated. You can also help each other by giving helpful advice, motivation when needed and encouragement when someone reaches a hump in their weight loss journey.
