A common problem with weight loss for many people is staying with the program. It may seem easy to begin with, when our goals don't seem so far away. After some time, even if you have been successful, it can be more and more difficult to stay motivated. It does not happen to everyone, though. There are many people who lose the weight and keep the weight off. How do people maintain their goal weight for so long?
Identifying your goals, whether it pertains to a certain amount of weight lost or physical aesthetics, is the first step to losing weight. Consider how much weight you want to lose so you know if you need to get new clothes. It even helps to write down your reasons for wanting to be thinner. Is it because you want more energy, or because you have a specific goal in mind, like dropping a few dress sizes?
Keep track of your weight loss weekly. Maintain a journal in which you track the weekly changes in your weight. Don't forget to log your food consumption in the same diary. Keep a food diary or log to keep yourself responsible for what you eat. The fact that you have to write it down may keep you from wanting it.
You want to keep healthy snacks close by for those times in the day when your brain is telling you that you are hungry and need something. If you don't do this, you might end up at a fast-food place without having a second thought. Planning your meals out and packing a lunch will save you money and help trim your waistline.
It is important to eat healthy and exercise daily. In order to gain needed energy, you will need to make time for regular exercise each week. Find other physical exercise to do if you find the same exercises to be boring. If you like going for walks or hikes, then take a friend along with you for companionship. If you like to dance, get your moves on with salsa dancing.
If your pantry is devoid of junk food, you will make healthier snack choices. Make sure that you only have healthy foods in your kitchen. These include foods like fresh produce, nuts and foods made with whole grain. Do not purchase unhealthy foods! If you do not have any junk food in your house, you will need to make a trip to go get some, and chances are you won't waste the time.
Ask your buddies to offer moral support. Even though it is still ultimately up to you to lose weight, their support can be a great source of motivation. If you have someone to be accountable to, then it makes it easier to stay with the plan when you feel like giving up. Give a friend a call if you need some help and someone to encourage you. No one can provide you with the support that you need like a friend can.
