At the beginning of a new weight-loss plan, many people are extremely motivated and hopeful. Sometimes the long term goal just seems too elusive, and the tendency is to give up too soon. Some people can lose weight and keep it off. How do they do this? How can I discover the magic needed to make this incredible progress possible? What is that secret?
First, identify your weight loss goals. It's important to figure out whether you want to lose weight or just tone up your body. What is your target weight? Or are trying to increase your energy and endurance?
Make notes of how you are doing. Avoid being a slave to the scale and weigh yourself just once or twice a week. It can make you anxious if you weight yourself too much. Also make a diary of all of the foods you eat daily and an estimate of the calories you take in. It is imperative to not leave out drinks and snacks! The act of logging food often helps you focus on what you choose to eat or drink and can prevent you from making a bad, short-term decision without thinking.
If you get to the point of true hunger, you are asking for weight loss trouble. If you allow yourself to get too hungry, it is hard to keep self-control. Decide what you will eat ahead of time and bring healthy snacks with you to consume when you are hungry. If you can bring your own lunch, do it. By packing a lunch, you are saving money and avoiding potentially bad choices while at work or school.
It is very important to eat healthy and exercise. You must exercise a minimum of three days each week, but more is even better! If working out this often is difficult for you to do, then you must ensure you do exercises that you love. Try to get your friends involved by asking them to walk with you. Short hikes on a nature trail or even just a walk through the neighborhood park can satisfy your thirst for the great outdoors and get you some exercise! Try going to a dance class to learn new ways to work out.
A key step in getting yourself healthy is to throw away all the junk food and temptations in your home. By filling your kitchen with fresh fruits and vegetables, you won't have the temptation available. Since you will have no junk food to reach for, you will be more likely to fulfill your craving with a healthy alternative.
Get friends in on the action. Your true friends will be glad to answer. You can greatly increase the chances of success if you keep the company of highly motivated and positive people. Your support system is there to give you the advice and encouragement you need to proceed toward your goal. If you feel down or unmotivated, reach out to your friends for support.
