Sometimes it can seem like it's impossible to reach your weight loss goals. Even if at first you are motivated and excited about losing weight, pitfalls along the way can leave you feeling discouraged, frustrated and ready to give up on your goals. How do people stay motivated to lose weight and stay thin? How can some people remain motivated while others fall flat?
Defining your goal up front is a pivotal first step in a successful weight loss program. Having a target weight goal will help you keep focused on reaching that goal.
Every week you have decisions that may influence your overall weight loss; eating correctly can be one of the decisions that will help maximize your weight loss. Keep track of how much weight you lose every week. A food diary helps you to keep track of what you have eaten throughout the day, and having a written record helps you see what you have been doing right and what you can change throughout your diet.
If you are hungry, you will tend to choose your foods impulsively. At that point the only thing you care about is eating quickly, even if it is junk food. Schedule the times you eat and carry healthy snacks with you in case you get hungry. Be sure to plan your meals and have your food prepared in advance so you will not be tempted to get fast food. This reduces your food costs and the food you prepare yourself will be healthier and lower in calories.
Successful weight loss programs need to include both dieting and exercise. Find the workout that you enjoy doing the most, and do it at least 3 times a week. If you find yourself having trouble getting enough exercise, you should think of a way to incorporate exercise into the things you enjoy doing. Do something physical like hiking or dancing the next time you get together with friends. If dancing is your passion, consider joining a ballroom dancing class which can let try your hand at dances like the foxtrot. If you like to hike, look for trails you do not know about!
Most people have heard about doing this, yet few people actually follow through with it. Go through your cupboards, and just get rid of all of the tempting foods that are bad for you - and your weight loss. When tempting foods are not readily available, it will be easier to resist any cravings you may have. Instead, make sure you have a lot of healthy options in your pantry, such as fruit, vegetables and nuts. Don't just strive to make it difficult to choose unhealthy alternatives. Strive to make it impossible, at least not without having to make a special trip to the store. Before long, you'll start to enjoy your new healthy snacks, and won't even miss the old ones.
A great support network can go a long way in helping you to stay focused on your weight loss plan. Have your friends give you support and encouragement. They can help cheer you up. They keep you going when all you want to do is sleep or play video games. You would do the same for your friends.
