In the beginning of a weight loss program, goals can seem unreachable, and the process might feel joyless. It is easy to be motivated when you first start you routine, but as time passes you may lose interest. How can some people manage to lose the weight and keep it off? Which methods do they use to accomplish this?
The first step in weight loss is to set out clear aims. Have you set a goal of how much weight you want to shed? Is there a certain clothing size you want to wear, or do you want your current wardrobe to fit you comfortably once again? Is your goal to be in better shape or gain energy?
It's important to keep track of your progress every week. Start a weight loss diary, making note of your weight on a weekly basis. List all the foods you eat on a daily basis in a food diary in your journal. This way you can see what you are eating, both good and bad, which may result in your making healthier choices.
When you allow yourself to get very hungry, you will be far more likely to make poor choices. You may end up eating whatever is on hand rather than making a more healthful choice. Save money and avoid temptation by planning out your meals and bringing them with you before you leave the house. Prepare lunch in advance rather than eating junk food on the go. Homemade food usually has fewer calories and less fat than what you would eat at a fast food joint or restaurant.
The two main parts of weight loss are eating healthy foods and getting enough exercise. Some people find that it is challenging to follow a fitness routine despite having no problem with changing their eating habits. However, you can find ways to raise your interest in exercise by tying it together with things you love or inviting friends to join you. Why not do both? Get together with your exercise buddy and go for a walk, swim or bike ride!
To stop eating unhealthy foods, make it harder to obtain. If you can't see it then you won't crave it so often, so tuck it out of sight, or, better yet, leave it in the grocery store where it belongs! If you are surrounded by healthy foods, you will choose to eat healthily.
Invite a friend to workout with you. When you have only yourself to rely on, you may slack off if you don't feel motivated or quit early because you have no one to encourage you. A great way to stay motivated when you are working out is to have a buddy do the exercise routine with you. You and your friend can encourage one other as well as give advice when asked.
