It's difficult to stay focused on the reasons you're working to lose weight. Your motivation and your interest may falter the longer you get into your weight loss journey. It was easy to start but it may seem hard to keep going. How can you internalize the motivation needed to push on that you see in others? How do they lose weight and keep it off?
Identifying your goals, whether it pertains to a certain amount of weight lost or physical aesthetics, is the first step to losing weight. You must also decide if you would just like to drop a few pounds or if you want to lose so much weight that you will have to buy all new clothes. Figure out why losing weight is important to you. Do you want to drop a dress size? To reach a specific weight goal? Or maybe you just want to improve your health and energy levels?
Keep track of your weight loss. Have a diary in which you can compare your weight each week. Use the same book to keep track of the food you consume. You should write down each thing you eat; this will hold you accountable for your daily food intake. The fact that you have to write it down may keep you from wanting it.
Never allow yourself to become too hungry. This is a recipe for poor food choices. To avoid this problem, make sure you bring healthy and satisfying food with you wherever you may go, just in case. Bring lunch from home. Packing your own meal gives you more control over the calories you consume, and will help you avoid the over-indulgence that occurs when you dine out. Preparing your own food is cheaper than eating out, so you can save calories as well as money.
You should try to integrate working out into your weight loss regime as well. Combining a healthy diet with good exercise habits is the key to making real progress. You should do something that you like doing so you will be drawn to keep doing it and losing weight. Look for physical activities that you enjoy doing. Sign up for classes at the local gym; it is a great way to meet new people.
If the junk food is not there, you can't eat it. Instead of junk food, make sure there are plenty of healthy snacks, such as veggies, fruits and nuts in your pantry. Don't buy foods that you know will sabotage your weight loss plan. Getting to junk food should involve leaving the house; don't buy it in the first place so you can't get a quick fix.
Do you have a friend that wants to lose weight too? If so, set up goals together and be there to encourage each other when the other is lacking in motivation. The encouragement you receive from others can keep you motivated when you don't think you go any further and just want to quit. Sometimes you can't do it alone, and it will help you reach your target by asking others for help.
