Losing weight can be a daunting task! You may do great the first couple of weeks, but slowly start losing your motivation. Then you begin to ponder how other people have been successful enough to reach their goals. What is their secret to success?
Identifying your most important weight loss goals is the first step in your weight loss program. How much weight do you want to lose? Do you want to be able to wear clothes in smaller sizes? Do you have a specific goal weight in mind? Is a healthy body your goal?
Weigh yourself weekly and chart your progress. Write your weekly weight down in a journal. Record what you eat in the same book. Keep a food diary or log to keep yourself responsible for what you eat. Even just the act of writing it down will discourage you from wanting it.
If you are hungry, you will tend to choose your foods impulsively. You're not taking into account whether it's a healthy choice - you just want to ease your hunger pangs as quickly as possible! Avoid this by having snacks on hand and make time for your meals. Avoid getting take-out by packing a meal ahead of time. You'll spend less on food, and probably eat fewer calories as well.
It is not enough just to have a good diet when you want to lose weight effectively. Integrating exercise into your weight loss program will improve your results. Make your exercise regimen something appealing. Find vigorous activities that are both healthy and entertaining. If you choose exercise classes that interest you, then exercising becomes fun and social instead of just a workout.
If there is something you can't eat, never bring it into the house! Your family may take some time getting used to this healthier way of eating, but they will adjust given time. Load up the fridge with fruits, veggies and other healthy items. This doesn't mean you have to go without snacks! Fruit makes a great snack for both children and adults. There are many other healthy snacks, as well, including granola.
It is important to have support when you are losing weight. No-one can lose weight for you. When you have a group of people cheering you on, it is easier to stay focused. When you feel like giving up, a simple call to a person in your support network can make all the difference in the world.
