Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. In beginning stages, it is very easy to be completely motivated to meeting our initial weight loss goals. Then, your motivation takes a hit and you just do not feel like you want to do this anymore and feel like you want to give up. Many people, however, fail to experience this frustration. People do succeed in losing weight and keep it off for years. How do people maintain their goal weight for so long?
You should first determine what your weight loss goals are. Is it your desire to wear clothes in a specific size? Do you know how much weight you want to lose? Is it important to you to feel more fit and healthy?
Keep a record of your progress. Write things down, such as caloric intake, foods you ingest and beverages you choose. Keep a regular journal that has records of your weight, preferably measured by the week. You should also make a diary of the food you consume daily. Knowing all the details are right there in black and white serves to keep you on track.
Being hungry can lead to poor food choices. Try to make decisions about what to eat and when to eat before you are feeling those intense hunger pangs. Never wait until you are famished before finding something to have as a snack. Be sure to plan your meals carefully and have snacks available. Instead of dining out, pack your own lunch. Planning ahead protects both your waistline and your wallet! Foolish choices about what to eat often stem from simply allowing yourself to get too hungry. The worst thing you can do is to wait until you are starving before deciding what to eat. Pre-plan your daily meals and have a few healthy snacks at hand. Bring your own lunch instead of going out to eat. You will save money, and be able to better keep track of the number of calories you are consuming.
A successful weight loss plan incorporates physical exercise and a nutritious diet. Find an exercise that you enjoy enough to do several times a week. If it is difficult for you to get regular exercise, try incorporating exercise into things you normally enjoy doing. Go for a walk with your friends when you hang out. Take a formal dance class if you enjoy dancing. If you're a hiking enthusiast, consider hiking some new trails!
Make junk food hard to get your hands on. Try to not buy junk food at all. Having healthy food around you will make it easier for you to eat it.
Call on your friends and family to assist you in meeting your goals. You have to do the heavy lifting yourself, but there's nothing like a support network to keep you motivated to lose weight. Be certain your friends are willing to talk you through those times when you are fatigued, discouraged or simply need extra motivation. These people will assist you in the weight loss process.
