Sometimes we think achieving lasting weight loss isn't in the cards for us. We start with all the enthusiasm and motivation in the world, and then get discouraged when we feel the soreness from our first workout. What are the obstacles preventing you from losing weight?
Your first major step towards weight loss is to know what success looks like. Specifically, what are your goals, and how will you know you have reached them? Why do you want to lose weight, what do you hope to accomplish? Do you want to drop a size or two? Is there a number you hope to see next time you weigh in? Would you just like to build towards a healthier body?
Record your progress at least once a week. Be sure to write in your weight loss journal frequently and weigh yourself only once a week. In the journal, write down the foods you eat each day. When you have a record of what you are eating, you will be more mindful about choosing healthier options for your meals.
When you are hungry, it will be easy to make food choices that are not in your best interest. This is because you just want to get food into your body quickly - you don't care whether what you are consuming is healthy. Try keeping snacks with you if you are going to be on the go. You should always plan your mealtime into your schedule to avoid the desire for fast food. Take your own food with you to avoid eating out. By doing this you will cut back on calories, and save money too.
Successful weight loss programs need to include both dieting and exercise. Try to find a workout that you enjoy, and do it several times each week. If you find yourself having trouble getting enough exercise, you should think of a way to incorporate exercise into the things you enjoy doing. Go for a walk or bike ride when you get together with your friends. If you enjoy dance, why not enroll in one of the many dance classes available? Do you feel an urging to get outside in the great outdoors? Do it!
A key step in getting yourself healthy is to throw away all the junk food and temptations in your home. Eliminate the sources of your bad eating habits and increase the availability of fruits and veggies. Get rid of all the unhealthy foods right now, so you can't possibly reach for them.
Let your friends and family know that you have long term weight loss goals. Having a team of supporters to cheer you on can have a huge effect on your motivation. Your loved ones can be a great source of inspiration. Look to them for a lift on those days when things aren't going quite right.
