Maintaining commitment to a weight loss strategy is a challenge for many. At the beginning, everything seems so easy to stick to, with both ambition and commitment running high. After a while, your motivation wanes and you cannot push through in your workouts like you used to be able to do. This drop-off is not a sure thing for everyone, though. There are some people who are successful at achieving their goals and maintaining their weight loss permanently. How do people accomplish this?
It is essential that you know your purposes for working out before setting up a plan. Do you wish to lose weight to fit into a smaller size, or do you simply want to look more svelte? Is your goal to increase your energy output by having a regular exercise program? What is your final goal for your fitness level?
Take note of how much weight you lose every week. Develop a log that allows you to track your efforts across many weeks. In the same book, create a food diary. By jotting down your food intake on a daily basis, you are more likely to stick with the program because you are holding yourself responsible. The fact that you have to write it down may keep you from wanting it.
When you ignore your hunger you set yourself up to make bad choices about which foods to eat. Don't wait until you are very hungry to eat, because you will be more likely to make unhealthy choices. Planning what you eat ahead of time is a great idea. When you are going to be away from home, be sure to bring them with you. When you can't be home, pack a lunch. This will save you money, and save your diet.
Eating right and keeping up to your regular exercise regimen is the best way to lose weight. Try to exercise 3 or 4 times a week, but be sure to allow a few days a week for your body to rest. If working out is boring to you, start taking fun things you already enjoy and see how you can mix a bit of exercise with it. If you are a fan of dancing, taking a class is a great way to workout while still having fun.
Take all the junk food out of your kitchen. Having only good foods around like veggies and fruits will help reduce some of the temptation. Simply by removing junk foods from the kitchen and pantry, you'll make it easier to avoid being tempted by the foods that add inches to your waistline.
Enlist the aid of your friends and family members. Although it is you that has to lose the weight, supportive people can provide you with the push you need. When you are fatigued, irritated or just need some positive reinforcement, it's great to have friends that you call. These friends can help you stay motivated.
