Losing weight can sometimes seem tiresome and even impossible. Even if at first you are motivated and excited about losing weight, pitfalls along the way can leave you feeling discouraged, frustrated and ready to give up on your goals. How can some people manage to lose the weight and keep it off? Which methods do they use to accomplish this?
Before you do anything else, you should ask yourself why you want to lose weight, and then set your goals. Is there a special event coming up that you want to look nice for? Do you have a target weight you want to reach? Are you interested in becoming generally healthier, or is slimming down a medical necessity? Those are the questions you need to answer.
Having to stare your progress (or lack thereof) in the face is one way to keep yourself on track. You should write down everything you consume in a food diary. At the end of the day, total up your calorie intake and see if you are within an acceptable range. Use that same journal to keep track of your weight from week to week. Including graphs in your weight loss journal can be very motivating.
Hunger usually results in unhealthy food decisions. It is not a good idea to wait until you are very hungry to eat. Schedule your meals and have snacks on hand. Bring your own lunch instead of going to a restaurant. Doing this can help you save both money and calories! When someone is hungry, they tend make worse decisions about food. Don't wait until you're starving to sit down to a meal. Plan your meals ahead of time and have healthy snacks available at all times. Instead of eating out, take your lunch with you. You will save money, and be able to better keep track of the number of calories you are consuming.
A successful weight loss program consists of proper eating habits along with regular exercise. Schedule fun work out activities a few times every week. Choosing a workout that you genuinely enjoy can make your exercise time a priority in your schedule instead of something you forget about. Do you like to spend time with your guy friends? Shoot some hoops with them! Is letting your hair down something that you enjoy doing? Learn some new moves in a dance class. Do you prefer to escape into the world of wildlife and visit areas of outstanding natural beauty? Go on a hike in the great outdoors or explore your local park.
If your kitchen is filled with junk food and unhealthy snacks, it can be hard to resist eating them. The healthier the foods you have available in your kitchen are, the more likely you are to choose them instead of sugar laden junk! Stock your pantry with lots of healthy alternatives to junk food, such as veggies, fruits, and healthy, low-fat snack foods. The simplest way to cut back on your junk food consumption is to not buy it at all. Once you replace the junk food with healthier options, then you'll be more likely to make healthy food choices.
Friends can support you in a variety of ways. Although they can't lose the weight for you, they can be invaluable in providing much-needed motivation to keep you going forward. If you're held responsible by someone, it helps you to not give up when you're feeling like you can't go on. Try calling a friend if you are in need of some additional encouragement. Just hearing their voice should be a reminder of how important it is for you to succeed!
