Maintaining commitment to a weight loss strategy is a challenge for many. In the beginning, it is easy to stick to your goals. Then, your motivation takes a hit and you just do not feel like you want to do this anymore and feel like you want to give up. This is not something that occurs with everyone. There are some people who are successful at achieving their goals and maintaining their weight loss permanently. How do they manage to accomplish that?
The first step in your weight loss effort should be to set goals for what you want to achieve. Do you want to slim down for a special occasion? Are your weight loss goals very specific or do you just want to become a bit thinner and leaner? Are you aiming to increase the amount of energy you have? Do you need to lose weight to improve your health? These are the types of things you need to ask yourself.
Stay on top of all of your progress. You should record your weight no more than once weekly. Weighing yourself more often than that can cause stress. Use a food journal to track all of your meals, snacks, beverages and the calories they contain. Write about the things you drink and include snacks as well. Jotting down everything we eat and drink can prevent us from making bad choices.
When you become too hungry, you get irrational in your food choices. Try to avoid being hungry without a healthy solution. Set aside one day each week to prepare your snacks and meals in advance. When you are going to be out of your home, take your snacks with you. When you can't be home, pack a lunch. Not only will this help you lose weight, but you will save money too.
Take a two-pronged approach to weight loss by combining your diet with an exercise regime. Create an exercise plan that incorporates different activities that you enjoy so that it is easier for you to maintain your work ethic. When you are trying to find something fun to do to keep exercising fun think about a dance class or a sport that you like. You can always even work out with friends. Making this work for you requires a bit of creativity, but it's all worth it in the end when you meet your goals.
If the junk food is not there, you can't eat it. Fill your pantry with healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and other types of healthy snacks. Don't buy food you shouldn't eat. If you don't purchase any junk food, you will be far less likely to be tempted. Surely you would rather reach for an apple as a late night snack than put on your shoes, drive to the store and buy some chips!
When you have people backing you up it will help you stay motivated on your weight loss journey. Reach out to your family and friends and ask them to encourage you along the away. When you feel like giving up, they will be there to cheer you on. They keep you going when all you want to do is sleep or play video games. Wouldn't you do the same if your friends asked?
