It's not hard to forget your motivation for getting fit when obstacles arise. Like many, you may have had a lot of motivation right at the beginning, but found your determination flagging after a bit. This is the time frame that separates the men from the boys (so to speak). It's important to learn how others who have succeeded before you have done it. How do they lose weight and keep it off?
In order to effectively drop pounds, you must first understand your goals. What exactly are you trying to accomplish through weight loss? Do you want to drop a few sizes? Do you have a specific goal weight in mind? Is your goal just to be healthier?
Track your progress in a journal. Avoid being a slave to the scale and weigh yourself just once or twice a week. If you do this more than once a week, you will be overly anxious. Keep a ledger that lists all the food you eat, along with the amount of calories consumed. Remember to keep a note of any drinks and snacks that you consume. Writing down what you consume can sometimes stop you from making poor diet decisions.
Making decisions about what to eat while you are hungry is not a wise choice. Planning your meals in advance and keeping healthy snacks on hand will help you avoid reaching for unhealthy foods. Pack a healthy lunch and brown-bag it instead of eating out to both save money and enjoy a more nutritious meal.
The two staples of any weight loss plan are diet and exercise. Find an enjoyable workout, and be sure to participate in it several times each week. If you find that simple exercise is a drag, integrate it into the things you like doing already. Use any opportunity to go on a walk. If you enjoy dance, why not enroll in one of the many dance classes available? If hiking is your thing, then hit a new trail every week!
Keep anything you can't eat out of your home. At first that might be a shock to your family, but guess what? If it's not good for you to eat, chances are it's not good for them to eat either. Load up the fridge with fruits, veggies and other healthy items. Nobody will have to live without a variety of snacking options. Fruit makes a great snack for both children and adults. Granola is another healthy snack you can enjoy while on a diet.
Recruit a wide offering of support from your friends and relations. They might not be able to lose the weight for you, but their unconditional support is the next best thing. Having someone to cheer you on can keep you going when you are out of steam. If it's encouragement you need, call a friend. No one can provide you with the support that you need like a friend can.
