Sometimes it seems like weight loss is beyond what we think we can do. So many people start off with a great attitude and a fully motivated spirit, but then give up after just a few workouts. What things make it easy for some people to lose weight and keep it off? What do they know about weight loss that you don't?
By creating a plan and identifying specific goals prior to starting, you are more likely to succeed. Is your aim to fit into some clothes that you already have stored in your wardrobe that are now too small, or do you want to drop a dress size so that you can go shopping for new clothes? Do you want to achieve a target weight? Decide whether feeling more energized and being in shape is important to you.
Consider writing a journal to chronicle your weight loss. You can make your daily entries as brief or as detailed as you like. For instance, you can simply include a list of the foods you ate at each meal and your weight for that day. When you have sufficient documentation, look at your consumption and your weight loss and make any necessary adjustments.
When you allow yourself to get very hungry, you will be far more likely to make poor choices. You may end up eating whatever is on hand rather than making a more healthful choice. You can avoid these complications by planning ahead and bringing those foods with you for your meals. Prepare lunch in advance rather than eating junk food on the go. Homemade food usually has fewer calories and less fat than what you would eat at a fast food joint or restaurant.
Being able to balance healthy eating and exercise is the key to permanent weight loss. It is very important to exercise at least three days out of the week. You should plan to do something you enjoy so this does not seem like such a challenge to you. If you like having long conversations with your friends, you can go with them for a walk. Short hikes on a nature trail or even just a walk through the neighborhood park can satisfy your thirst for the great outdoors and get you some exercise! If you enjoy dancing you should take a class and learn a new routine.
Almost everyone knows it, but few do it. Get rid of all those bad foods in your kitchen. If you do not have any junk food in your house, you will not be as easily tempted. Be sure to fill the void with healthful choices such as yogurt, fruits & veggies, nuts, whole grains, and other nourishing foods. Make not so good choices unavailable to you: if it's not around you won't think about it.
Having the support of your family and friends can make a world of difference. They might not be able to lose the weight for you, but their unconditional support is the next best thing. Having to answer to someone other than yourself can help keep you from giving up when you are feeling discouraged. Call your friends any time you are in need of a little help. No one can provide you with the support that you need like a friend can.
