A common problem with weight loss for many people is staying with the program. In the beginning, we are optimistic about realizing our goals, and achieving them seems easy. Then, your motivation takes a hit and you just do not feel like you want to do this anymore and feel like you want to give up. This drop-off is not a sure thing for everyone, though. People can get the weight loss they want, and keep it off. How do people accomplish this?
To being with, you need to figure out what your weight loss goals are. Would you enjoy feeling great in your clothes again or, better yet, shopping for new clothes that are several sizes smaller then your current size? Are you thinking about the goals you have? Is it your goal to raise your energy level and get in shape?
A great motivation to help you continue on with your weight loss goals is to write down your plan. Implement a weight loss diary in which you can record every food and beverage you consume. Add up the amount of calories you ingest each day to see if you are within your recommended totals. Recording weekly progress on your weight in this journal will help you stay focused. Being able to look back on your progress by means of a graph is a great way to stay on track with your weight loss.
When you are famished, it is not good to decide what you are going to eat. Plan your meals in advance to avoid temptation, and always make sure you have healthy snacks ready. Bringing your own lunch from home will help you save money and eat healthier.
Losing weight starts with both healthy eating and frequent exercise. Some people find that it is challenging to follow a fitness routine despite having no problem with changing their eating habits. There are lots of ways to make exercise easy and fun. Just find some workout videos or physical activities you enjoy or get together with a workout buddy! If you can do the two together, even better! Start cycling or hiking with a friend or join the same gym.
Obviously, if you have no junk food in your cupboards, you will be far less likely to eat it. Instead of junk food, fill your kitchen with healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables and granola. Stop buying the bad stuff. If you don't purchase any junk food, you will be far less likely to be tempted. Surely you would rather reach for an apple as a late night snack than put on your shoes, drive to the store and buy some chips!
Inform your loved ones that you want to lose weight and gain their support. The constant encouragement of your support group is sure to keep you motivated. Get together with your supporters when you feel like quitting so you can get motivated again.
