Losing weight can be such an uphill battle, and sometimes it seems like you will never reach your goals. So many people start off with a great attitude and a fully motivated spirit, but then give up after just a few workouts. What things make it easy for some people to lose weight and keep it off? What do they know about weight loss that you don't?
Identifying your goals, whether it pertains to a certain amount of weight lost or physical aesthetics, is the first step to losing weight. Think about whether you want to lose a few pounds, or whether you want to drop an entire clothing size. Figure out why losing weight is important to you. Figure out if you want to lose the weight in order to have more energy or to lose a dress size.
Having to stare your progress (or lack thereof) in the face is one way to keep yourself on track. Keep a log of every single piece of food that you consume in a journal. At the end of the day, total up your calorie intake and see if you are within an acceptable range. Use that same journal to keep track of your weight from week to week. You should consider using a graph in your weight loss journal as they can be especially helpful!
When you let yourself go too long without eating, you will naturally crave foods that are high in calories and fat. This is a primal instinct that is hard to eliminate. Avoid being faced with poor choices unexpectedly by planning your meals and snacks for each day and packing them to take along wherever you go. Pack your lunch based off of your plan, instead of dining out. You will save lots of money and get a better quality of food. The food you prepare for yourself will have far less fat, sodium and calories than anything you could buy at a restaurant or fast food eatery.
A successful weight loss plan includes both a plan for eating nutritious, healthy meals and frequent exercise. Find the workout that you enjoy doing the most, and do it at least 3 times a week. If you find that simple exercise is a drag, integrate it into the things you like doing already. Go for a walk with your girlfriends when you get together. Look into taking a dance class, if you like dancing. Are you a fan of the great outdoors? Step outside and go on a good, long hike.
If your home is full of bad food options, it can be difficult to cease consuming them. However, following the same logic, we can determine that when the refrigerator is full of healthy, nutritious snacks, then that is what you will reach for. Make sure your pantry has tons of healthy food options like fruits, vegetables, and nuts. In order to ensure you do not consume junk, do not buy it. Having healthy food within easy reach while you have to go out to get junk food makes you far more likely to choose the healthy food.
No one can lose weight for you. In order to not get discouraged and lonely, you need to ask your friends and family for their support. Don't be afraid to ask for a little reassurance. Do not give in to the allure of the snack cake. Call on your friends for some motivation and inspiration when you are feeling insecure and need some help staying on track.
