Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. In the beginning, we are optimistic about realizing our goals, and achieving them seems easy. However, eventually motivation usually dwindles, and you start to give up. This drop-off is not a sure thing for everyone, though. People can get the weight loss they want, and keep it off. What is their secret to this success?
Determining exactly what you want to achieve from your weight loss efforts should be your first step. What results would you like to see from your weight loss? Do you want to be able to wear clothes that are a smaller size? Is there a number you hope to see next time you weigh in? Or, like most people, do you simply want to make your body fitter and healthier?
Track your progress in a journal. Only record your weight one time per week. If you do it more often, you may find yourself becoming anxious when you think you aren't reaching your goals. List everything you eat and its caloric content in your food diary. It is imperative to not leave out drinks and snacks! Writing down what you eat can help you make better food choices.
Try not to allow yourself to become famished. If you starve yourself, you may give into temptation. Plan your meals in advance. Bring snacks with you, too. Whenever you can, you should pack your lunch. That way you can realize substantial financial savings and reduce the likelihood of binging on unhealthy foods.
The most effective way to get weight off is to eat healthy and work out on a regular basis. Exercising at least 3 times a week is great, while exercising every day is not essential. If working out is boring to you, start taking fun things you already enjoy and see how you can mix a bit of exercise with it. If you are a fan of dancing, taking a class is a great way to workout while still having fun.
Throw away any unhealthy food that is found in your cupboards. You cannot eat food that you do not have, so be sure to keep only healthy foods in your pantry that will help you remain slim. This will make it difficult to have the foods that are bad for you within easy access, which means you will not eat as much of them.
Get friends in on the action. These situations prove why it's important to have good friends by your side. Having someone who will cheer you on is really inspiring. They can provide you with the right nudge to keep you going. Whenever you feel your enthusiasm starting to flag, feel free to seek their assistance.
