A common problem with weight loss for many people is staying with the program. In beginning stages, it is very easy to be completely motivated to meeting our initial weight loss goals. At some point, though, your energy drops, and you are not motivated to continue. However, some people manage to keep their motivation. There are some people who are successful at achieving their goals and maintaining their weight loss permanently. How do people maintain their goal weight for so long?
The first step in your weight loss effort should be to set goals for what you want to achieve. Do you have an upcoming social function for which you want to look your best? Do you have a target weight you want to reach? Is it energy that you need, or do you have a medical condition that requires you to lose weight? Your answers to these questions are important.
Keep track of your progress weekly. Keep a regular journal that has records of your weight, preferably measured by the week. Add a food diary to your journal, and be sure to list your food intake throughout each day. This way you can see what you are eating, both good and bad, which may result in your making healthier choices.
Always make your food choices before hunger strikes. If you let yourself get too hungry, it is hard to make healthy food choices. Avoid this by planning each of your meals and snacks in advance. Bring your lunch instead of going out to eat. It helps you lose weight and cut expenses at the same time. Who doesn't like killing two birds with one stone?
You need exercise and healthy eating habits in order to lose weight. Find a workout that you like to do, and complete it regularly. When it's hard to fit exercising into your schedule, incorporate a favorite activity into your workout. For example, go for a walk with your friends instead of staying inside. If you enjoy dance, why not enroll in one of the many dance classes available? Do you feel an urging to get outside in the great outdoors? Do it!
This is a common piece of advice, but few people actually follow it. Have a cleaning party - invite your friends over to help you get rid of the junk food in your fridge and pantry by taking it home with them. If your cupboards are clean of tempting foods, then you are much more likely to reach for any healthy snacks you have on hand. Use healthy alternatives like fresh fruit and vegetables. Make not so good choices unavailable to you: if it's not around you won't think about it.
The support of friends and family goes a long way towards helping you stick with the plan. Reach out to your family and friends and ask them to encourage you along the away. If you feel like giving up, your friends will be there to offer support. They keep you going when all you want to do is sleep or play video games. Wouldn't that be what you would do in their shoes?
