It can seem like you will never lose weight. It is easy to lose motivation from one day to the next. Why isn't it the same for everybody? Many people are able to lose weight and keep it off. What is their secret?
Identifying your goal is the first step in a successful weight loss program. You must also decide if you would just like to drop a few pounds or if you want to lose so much weight that you will have to buy all new clothes. You should figure out exactly why you want to lose weight. Do you want to drop a dress size? To reach a specific weight goal? Or maybe you just want to improve your health and energy levels?
Track your progress in a journal. Only weigh yourself one time weekly. Don't weigh yourself too often, or you'll get discouraged with the less than impressive progress. List everything you eat and its caloric content in your food diary. Write about the things you drink and include snacks as well. Writing down what you eat can help you make better food choices.
When you are hungry, it will be easy to make food choices that are not in your best interest. At that point the only thing you care about is eating quickly, even if it is junk food. Schedule the times you eat and carry healthy snacks with you in case you get hungry. You could take a meal with you so you aren't having to get take-out to satisfy your hunger. You'll spend less on food, and probably eat fewer calories as well.
The best way to lose weight is to eat healthy and work out. Setting aside a fixed time each week to exercise regularly will improve your stamina and energy. If it is difficult for you to schedule formal exercise routines into your daily life, try adding fun physical activities instead. Go for a walk with some friends, or head out to a dance club.
To rid yourself of temptations clean out your pantry of all junk food. If you have an ample amount of healthful choices on hand, the temptation to reach for junk food will diminish. If you get rid of foods that are unhealthy from your house, you will not have access to any of those snacks that add to your weight.
It is important to have supportive people around, maybe even a weight loss partner if possible when trying to lose weight. The encouragement you receive from others can keep you motivated when you don't think you go any further and just want to quit. Make sure to use your support network when necessary. Your friends and family share the desire to see you succeed, so if you hit a bump in the road, ask one of them for the advice, assistance or encouragement you need to overcome the obstacle and get back on the road to achieving your goal.
