Losing weight and keeping it off can seem like an unattainable goal. We start with all the enthusiasm and motivation in the world, and then get discouraged when we feel the soreness from our first workout. What can you do to make sure you're a success?
The first thing you need to do is decide what goals are attainable and important for you in your weight loss journey. Do you have an upcoming social function for which you want to look your best? Is there a certain number of pounds you want to lose? Do you want to lose weight to feel more energetic? Do you need to lose excess pounds for medical reasons? These are the types of things you need to ask yourself.
Actually putting your goals in writing can really help you stay motivated to adhere to your plan. Keep a weight loss diary, and don't forget to make a note of everything you eat. At the end of each day be sure to count up all of the calories you have consumed to ensure you stayed in a healthy range. Use that same journal to keep track of your weight from week to week. The use of a graph is a great visual motivator in your weight loss journal.
Avoid food shopping when you are hungry. If we try and make healthy food choices when we are hungry, all common sense goes by the wayside. To avoid making poor choices in foods, prepare meals in advance, and keep healthy snacks around. Try to pack your lunch rather than dining out. This will help you with two very worthwhile goals - losing weight and saving money!
Successful weight loss programs need to include both dieting and exercise. Find a workout you find enjoyable, and perform your workout at 3-4 days each week. When it's hard to fit exercising into your schedule, incorporate a favorite activity into your workout. When getting together with your friends, you can all take a walk. Try taking a formal dancing class if you like dancing. If you like hiking, you can go explore several trails near you.
Most everyone has heard about this method, yet people rarely do it. Have a cleaning party - invite your friends over to help you get rid of the junk food in your fridge and pantry by taking it home with them. If they are not available, then you will not be able to give in to temptation. Fill your fridge with fresh produce and yogurt instead. If you keep the bad choices out of sight, you will be more likely to make good choices.
Get help from your friends. These situations prove why it's important to have good friends by your side. When you surround yourself with friends that support you, you will be able to succeed more easily. These people can give you the motivation you need to carry on. If you feel down or unmotivated, reach out to your friends for support.
