Sometimes, it is easy to forget why you are putting yourself through all this work. Although it started as a fun adventure, it can quickly become tedious and difficult to see the progress you have made. What can you do to make yourself as motivated as others you see around you? How do people manage to succeed and maintain their success in weight loss efforts?
Before you do anything else, decide on some realistic weight loss goals. Are you looking to shed lots of pounds, or do you just want to reclaim clothing that has not been worn for many years? Is feeling better and healthier something you want to accomplish? Setting goals gives you a solid point in the future to look forward to. Without set goals, you will be less likely to stay with your weight loss program.
Make notes of how you are doing. Check your weight only one time a week. If you weigh yourself too often, it can be a detriment to your self-esteem. Always try to write down everything that you consume in a food journal Make sure to include the snacks and beverages as well. The act of logging food often helps you focus on what you choose to eat or drink and can prevent you from making a bad, short-term decision without thinking.
It's easy to make snap decisions when a lack of food options are available. You aren't making good decisions about what to eat - you simply want to eat anything you can get your hands on, as fast as possible! Avoid this by having snacks on hand and make time for your meals. Take the time to prepare for your meals and pack them up beforehand so you do not have to buy fatty takeout. You'll spend less on food, and probably eat fewer calories as well.
Eating right and keeping up to your regular exercise regimen is the best way to lose weight. Exercising at least 3 times a week is great, while exercising every day is not essential. Do not let boredom get a hold of you, take every opportunity to make having fun your primary goal. Join a dance club or class, for example, if you already enjoy dancing.
You must take a stand and ban junk food from your house and office! It may be painful to hear, but if the junk food isn't available, then you can't consume it. Turn your workplace and your home into healthy food zones. Stock snacks like seeds, fruits and vegetables so that you can satisfy those unexpected munchies with healthy treats.
Talk to your friends, and envelop yourself with their support. These situations prove why it's important to have good friends by your side. If you decide to surround yourself with people that are positive and support you in your efforts, you then have a better chance of success in reaching your goals. These people can provide the extra incentive to continue pushing onward. If you feel down or unmotivated, reach out to your friends for support.
