Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. In beginning stages, it is very easy to be completely motivated to meeting our initial weight loss goals. After a while, your motivation wanes and you cannot push through in your workouts like you used to be able to do. It does not happen to everyone, though. People do succeed in losing weight and keep it off for years. How do people accomplish this?
Determining exactly what you want to achieve from your weight loss efforts should be your first step. What exactly are you trying to accomplish through weight loss? Do you want to be able to wear clothes in smaller sizes? Is there a particular weight goal that you have in mind? Are your primarily interested in improving your health?
Make notes of how you are doing. You should only weigh yourself once a week. Weighing yourself more often than that can cause stress. Use a food journal to track all of your meals, snacks, beverages and the calories they contain. Make sure to include the snacks and beverages as well. Writing down what you eat can help you make better food choices.
If you are hungry, you will tend to choose your foods impulsively. You're not taking into account whether it's a healthy choice - you just want to ease your hunger pangs as quickly as possible! Try keeping snacks with you if you are going to be on the go. You should always plan your mealtime into your schedule to avoid the desire for fast food. Avoid getting take-out by packing a meal ahead of time. Using this method you will save money on food and cut down on the calories you consume.
Eating healthy and exercising regularly are a big part of the best weight loss plans. Setting aside a fixed time each week to exercise regularly will improve your stamina and energy. If you find exercises that you frequently perform to be difficult, find things that you like and do them instead. See if any of your friends would like to engage in a fun, calorie burning activity like dancing or hiking.
Obviously, if you have no junk food in your cupboards, you will be far less likely to eat it. Replace your favorite junk foods with healthy alternatives that you still enjoy snacking on, such as salsa, fresh fruits and granola bars. Avoid purchasing the foods you should not have so it will not be in your cupboards when you are hungry. By not purchasing it at all, you won't find yourself eating it!
A great support network can go a long way in helping you to stay focused on your weight loss plan. Your friends can serve as a source of inspiration and motivation. When you feel ready to give up on your workouts, your friends can talk you into sticking with them. Your friends can be great motivators when you feel like being a couch potato and not working towards your goals. Wouldn't that be what you would do in their shoes?
