Sometimes it can seem like it's impossible to reach your weight loss goals. Even if at first you are motivated and excited about losing weight, pitfalls along the way can leave you feeling discouraged, frustrated and ready to give up on your goals. How can some people manage to lose the weight and keep it off? How can some people remain motivated while others fall flat?
Your first major step towards weight loss is to know what success looks like. Specifically, what are your goals, and how will you know you have reached them? Why do you want to lose weight, what do you hope to accomplish? Would you be happier if you were able to wear smaller clothes? Are you trying to get to a certain weight? Is a healthy body your goal?
You need to monitor your weekly weight loss. Weigh yourself once a week, and log what you eat in a food journal each day. Keeping a record of what we eat and drink make us more likely to stay on track and not cheat.
If you are ravenous, chances are you will make hasty decisions about what you eat. The focus is not on finding the healthiest options - you simply want to eat something immediately. Keeping snacks with you and ensuring you are eating regular meals will help avoid this. Be sure to plan your meals and have your food prepared in advance so you will not be tempted to get fast food. As a result, you will save money on meals and could also end up consuming fewer calories.
The weight loss systems with the highest success rates focus on both diet and exercise. Is important to make sure you enjoy the workouts that you are doing a couple of times a week. If you are having trouble including exercise in your normal schedule, try to focus on having fun, rather than doing a workout. Find an activity that you enjoy and make time to do that. Do you like to spend time with your guy friends? Take them on in a game of basketball. Do you enjoy dancing the night away? Learn some new moves in a dance class. Do you love nature? Go on a hike in the great outdoors or explore your local park.
Make your junk food less accessible so that you won't eat it as much. You could hide your junk food, but you would probably be better of not buying it at all. When everything in your kitchen is healthy, chances are you will gravitate toward those items.
Inform others of your workout goals. They can support you when you need inspiration in reaching your weight loss goals. If you find yourself becoming unmotivated, meet up with your friends and family to get yourself going again.
