Losing weight can seem like a dream that is out of reach. People often start out with a lot of motivation, which they lose as time goes by, and the effort becomes more taxing. Is there a reason why that doesn't happen for everybody? Some folks lose weight and keep it off. What do they do that is different?
First of all, you should set goals for your weight loss. Why do you want to lose weight, what do you hope to accomplish? Would you be happier if you were able to wear smaller clothes? Do you have a goal in mind, with regard to your weight loss? Is your goal just to be healthier?
Record your progress at least once a week. Write things down in a journal and make sure you weigh in at least once a week. List the foods you eat in a daily food diary that is part of your journal. You will be more aware of what you are eating since you will be keeping track of it, and this will lead to you making better food selections.
If you reach a level of hunger that feels like starvation, there's a pretty good chance that you will choose the wrong food to eat. When you're out, you need to pack some healthy foods to take with you to avoid this trouble. Bring lunch from home. Packing your lunch gives you control over portion sizes and calories. It is much cheaper than eating out so you will find that you aren't only losing weight, but you are helping your wallet!
Eating healthy meals and snacks is one part of your weight loss program - frequent exercise is the other. Some people find that sticking to an effective workout program is a lot harder than sticking to a healthy diet. Exercising can be way more fun if you find an activity you like or start working out with a buddy. If you can do the two together, even better! Start cycling or hiking with a friend or join the same gym.
Almost everyone knows it, but few do it. Throw away all the unhealthy snacks and junk food from your home! When the junk food is not available and readily at hand, you will not be able to just grab some when you are tempted. Instead of junk food, fill your refrigerator with healthy food, such as fruits and vegetables. If you get rid of all of the unhealthy choices you will not be able to eat them.
Reach out to your friends and family to support you during your weight loss efforts. Having friends there to support you can be a great motivator, even though they can't lose weight for you. If you have a coach or a mentor, it makes it easier to avoid quitting when you are tired or feeling down. Call your friends any time you are in need of a little help. They will be able to get you through the tough times by offering you a supportive shoulder.
