Sometimes it seems like weight loss is beyond what we think we can do. After a few weeks of dieting, your motivation may fade and it can be tempting to quit. Some people are successful at weight loss. How do they take it off and not gain it back? How do these people lose weight so successfully? What is the trick?
Setting clearly defined goals is one of the most important steps in weight loss. Do you want to lose a lot of weight, or do you just want to be able to fit into some clothes that have been too tight for some time? Is it that you want to be healthier and feel fitter? Goals provide focus and allow you to gauge your progress along the way.
Keep a record of your weight loss every week. Write your weight in a journal so you can keep track of it. Record what you eat in the same book. You should write down each thing you eat; this will hold you accountable for your daily food intake. You won't want it as much once you have written it down and you see it in black and white.
If you reach a level of hunger that feels like starvation, there's a pretty good chance that you will choose the wrong food to eat. In order to avoid this from occurring, prepare some healthy food options to take with you when you go out. Instead of eating at a diner or restaurant, you can eat healthier by bringing your lunch to school or work. Packing your own meal gives you more control over the calories you consume, and will help you avoid the over-indulgence that occurs when you dine out. Because it normally costs less to bring your lunch than to dine out, you will most likely find that you are saving money while whittling your waistline.
Usually, just eating well is not enough to produce great weight loss results. When you add an exercise regime to your weight loss plan, it will really help you to make progress. If you make your exercise something that appeals to you, you will more than likely stick to your routine. Find fun activities that are both healthy and vigorous. Find exercise classes that intrigue you and get to know your classmates so that you develop the type of social interaction that keeps you motivated to return.
Almost everyone knows it, but few do it. Simply throw all of your junk food and unhealthy snacks away. If your cupboards are clean of tempting foods, then you are much more likely to reach for any healthy snacks you have on hand. Have healthy alternatives at hand instead, such as fruit, vegetables and yogurt. Try to remove negative options from your life: you can't eat what you don't have.
If you want help sticking to a weight loss plan, then you need a good support system. Look to friends and family for support and encouragement. When you feel ready to give up, they will buck you up and give you the courage and motivation to continue. They keep you going when all you want to do is sleep or play video games. That's what friends are for.
